The Department of Physics and Mathematics is one of the principal academic departments in the Faculty of Science, offering comprehensive undergraduate and graduate programs. The department traces its roots to the establishment of An-Najah National University in 1977, when the Physics and Mathematics Departments formed a fundamental pillar in the development of the Faculty. Over the decades, they have contributed to preparing highly qualified scientific professionals at both the local and international levels.

The department focuses on developing scientific competencies that combine theoretical and applied knowledge with research skills, while promoting interdisciplinary integration in physics and mathematics to support education, scientific research, industry, technology, and data analysis, in alignment with the requirements of sustainable development and contemporary scientific advancements.

The department is distinguished by a qualified academic faculty with diverse teaching and research expertise. It provides a modern educational environment that includes advanced physics laboratories and innovative educational technologies in mathematics, enhancing students’ skills, innovation capabilities, and competitiveness in the job market.

The establishment of the department is part of the Faculty’s strategic direction toward strengthening interdisciplinary integration. In 2026, the Physics and Mathematics Departments were merged into a single academic department with the aim of developing high-quality programs that foster connections among the fundamental sciences and respond to market needs and scientific advancements.
